You probably have this feature in your new vehicle from Century BMW, but do you really know how the technology in your mirrors allows them to dim automatically depending on the vehicles that are around you? It's a pretty fascinating technology, and we'd like to explain it to you.

Sensors are located in your mirror that will detect headlights that are located behind you. Any glare that exists will cause the mirrors to darken on their own. They will clear back up once the headlight glare is gone.

Electrochromism uses a substance within the mirror that reacts to the electricity that is produced when another vehicles lights are sensed in your vicinity. The substance will change again when that light is reduced. Most auto dimming mirrors come installed as part of the vehicles original design. There are aftermarket mirrors that can be added on as well.
