What's New for the 2019 BMW X3?

Now in its third generation of production, the BMW X3 gets a brand-new rear-wheel-drive version with the introduction of the sDrive30i. The compact luxury crossover SUV now has three versions to choose from: the rear-wheel-drive sDrive30i, the all-wheel-drive xDrive30i, and the high-performance M40i. True to its designation, the M40i has a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline 6-cylinder (I6) engine that puts out 355 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque and is joined with an 8-speed automatic transmission for a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. The 30i trims go with a smaller and less powerful 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged I4 with 248 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is also pinned to an 8-speed automatic gearbox but produces a 0-60 mph time of 6 seconds. Both engines have automatic stop/start technology to eliminate idling when the vehicle is at a complete stop.

Two rows are in the cabin of the 2019 BMW X3 to provide seating for up to five people. Standard cargo space is set at 28.7 cubic feet. However, that can be expanded to 62.7 cubic feet by folding down the rear seats. SensaTec vinyl upholstery, anthracite headliner, Dark Oak wood trim, a three-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, 10-way power front sports seats with 2-way power side bolster, and a memory system for the driver’s seat are standard. On the M40i, the X3 is upgraded with 14-way front-seat power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar support, and Aluminum Rhombicle interior trim replaces the wood trim. Comfort and convenience on the 2019 BMW X3 are provided by features like dynamic cruise control, tri-zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage-door opener, a vehicle monitor system, Bluetooth® wireless technology, an electronic LCD instrument display, BMW TeleServices for vehicle maintenance assistance, an AM/FM radio tuner, HD Radio™, a 12-speaker 205-watt audio system, a USB audio port, pre-wiring for SiriusXM® satellite radio, and the iDrive 6.0 infotainment integration system.w

The M40i gets additional keyless entry and one-year access to SiriusXM® satellite radio. For protection in the event of a crash, the 2019 BMW X3 comes with dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags and dual side curtain airbags. Also standard are dynamic vehicle stability and traction control, brake fade compensation and drying, dynamic and cornering brake control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, a rearview camera, LED daytime running lights, an anti-theft system, and BMW Assist eCall™ for SOS emergency requests and automatic collision notification. More advanced features include park distance control, frontal collision warning, automatic city collision mitigation and braking, daytime pedestrian detection, and speed limit information. Also present is an Active Protection System, which detects imminent accidents to automatically pretension safety belts, close windows and moonroof (if so equipped), and activate post-crash braking; it also includes a Fatigue and Focus Alert feature.
