2020 BMW X5 vs 2020 Acura MDX

Serving Greenville, SC

For almost two decades, the BMW X5 and the Acura MDX have directly competed against each other. These are three-row SUVs that are both in the midsize luxury crossover class, and they also both received moderate updates in the 2019 model year. Is the 2020 BMW X5 or the 2020 Acura MDX the SUV that is right for you?

The 2020 BMW X5 is easy on the eyes with decadent personality lines and flowing contours from front to rear. The front end is notably stunning with vertical bars running through the iconic BMW grille and horizontal bars flowing in contrast through the lower front fascia. The angled headlights have multiple LED elements for an added touch. The X5 for 2020 also may come with a hands-free liftgate, heated side mirrors with integrated turning signals, remote entry, lower-body molding, air vents by the front fenders, and other features. The 2020 Acura MDX has a relatively small grille with a pentagon shape and a flared pattern radiating from the logo. Their angles carry into the headlights, which have a series of round elements topped with a flat light bar. From the side view, the MDX has modest definition.

Throughout the interior, the 2020 BMX X5 is equally decadent and modern. It combines quilted, premium seats with wood and metallic accents. The driver can enjoy a heated steering wheel with mounted functions, a heads-up display, and a digital instrumentation screen with a display for the navigation system. A panoramic sunroof, a premium sound system, smart device integration, wireless device charging, and many other features are also in the X5. In the 2020 Acura MDX, you will immediately notice that the dashboard and center stack designs are both layered and flared. From the narrow base of the center stack, the stack progressively widens as it holds the climate management controls, the color display screen, the air vents, and other equipment. This vehicle has a rotary gear shifter, climate controls in the second row, interior lighting, and several other features.

The entry-level trim for the 2020 BMW X5 is loaded with a twin-power turbo I-6, 3.0-liter engine that generates 335 horsepower. Additional powertrains are available in higher trim levels. One of these is an M Performance twin-power turbo V8, 4.4-liter engine that delivers 523 horsepower. The MDX is outfitted with a 3.5-liter, V6 engine across all trim levels, and it gives you 290 horsepower. A sport variation is available as an alternative. This is a 3.0-liter, V6 hybrid engine that gives off 257 horsepower.
