At Century BMW, our customers frequently inquire about the latest updates made to our top models. As you start your search for a smaller luxury crossover SUV, your attention may settle on the beautiful X3. The X3’s third-generation launched in 2018, and both the 2021 and 2022 model years are part of that generation. However, there are a few prominent differences between the two most recent versions of the X3 that you should be aware of before you pick out your next vehicle.

Performance

The X3 is available with a few powertrains for both 2021 and 2022. The base-level trim comes with the same TwinPower Turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine for both years. This engine generates 248 horsepower. If you step up to the M40i trim level, the 2022 version has an upgraded six-cylinder, mild-hybrid engine. This powertrain is mated with an advanced starter-generator for enhanced performance.

Appearance

When you compare the 2021 X3 to the 2022 X3 in person at Century BMW, you will notice that they have a similar, tall profile with the exact deep contours on the sides. However, the headlights and taillights have a different look. For 2022, the X3’s headlights show off a pair of linked, circular LED beams. The rear lights have an LED light ribbon that mimics the outline of a key. You can appreciate an array of similar exterior features in both models. These are heated and powered side mirrors, keyless entry, a sunroof, and more.

Features

Before you can wrap up your comparison of the 2021 and 2022 X3 crossovers, you need to take a closer look at their features. By doing so, you will see that the Driving Assistance Package in the 2022 version adds Traffic Jam Assist. This is the only notable difference in equipment between the 2021 and 2022 versions. Both model years come with a premium audio system, an iDrive 7.0 media system, auto climate management, Apple CarPlay, a cloud-based navigation system, Android Auto, a 12.3-inch color display screen, and other equipment.
