For elite auto shoppers who have unwavering standards for luxury and who also crave an electrified driving experience, BMW has several exciting options to consider. The X5 has long been a popular midsize SUV thanks to its balance of sophistication and smart engineering, and it offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain in its xDrive50e trim level. The BMW iX was introduced a few years ago, and this midsize SUV is exclusively available with an all-electric system. What should you know about these options before selecting your new BMW?

Performance

The 2025 BMW X5 xDrive50e is outfitted with a turbo six-cylinder gas engine and two electric motors. Together, the system produces 483 horsepower and can take you 40 miles down the road entirely on electric power. The BMW iX has two electric motors with an all-wheel drive layout. The base-level system produces 516 horsepower, and its range is 309 miles on a fully charged battery. The more advanced system delivers 610 horsepower and has a 285-mile range.

Appearance

The BMW X5 is of prestigious quality, with chrome accents across the bumper, kidney-style grille, and lower-side panels. An angled air vent near the front fender is also dressed in chrome. The look is brought to life with a swooping hood that boasts strong definition and deeply contoured sides. The BMW iX is a tall vehicle with a flatly angled roof and a strong front end. The haunches are strongly molded, while the door panels have a chiseled look. At the front, the tall, kidney-style grille is narrow. It is paired with slit-style LED headlights and impact-making, triangular air inlets.

Features

The BMW X5 for 2025 is loaded with premium features. These include a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.9-inch infotainment system screen, a tri-zone climate control panel, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless internet hotspot, a navigation system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, parking sensors, a blind-spot warning, lane departure alert, forward collision mitigation, and blind-spot intervention. The iX's standard features include a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, heated door panels and seats, massaging front seats, highway driving assistance, microfiber and wool upholstery, soft-close doors, a head-up display, and many of the features offered in the X5.
